This week will be a continuation of last week’s blog. I will be list the different natural fabrics and there important characteristics.
Cotton- cotton is stronger wet than dry and can go through many washings. It can also get holes very easily and also can deteriorate in long periods of sunlight.
Linen- linen is 2 to 3 times stronger than cotton and is easier to be dyed. Sadly is does yellow wit age unlike cotton and as little elasticity.
Ramie- this is just a softer version of linen and is normally used in blends of different fabrics.
Wool- wool is very strong and bendable. Wool also has elasticity which is helpful. It also has a natural insulation so if it is hot it will keep you cool and if is cool it will keep you warm. If you wash it in warm water it shrinks into felt. It is also flame resistant and a water repellant.
Silk- silk is very light weight and is the strongest of all natural fabrics. Light and heat can destroy silk and make it yellow.
